The goal of this session is to present the overarching challenge of addressing chemical pollution and its consequences on global health, as well as emphasizing the complexity and urgency of finding solutions through a One Health perspective.

15:45 Plenary Session 2: Towards a European Green deal 2.0

The "European Green Deal” is a broad and ambitious strategy for societal transformation towards sustainable development within and beyond the European Union. A key component of the deal, is the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability, which comprises more than 80 action points, including legal revisions. The Green Deal moreover links these measures to combat pollution with climate mitigation and biodiversity protection, as well as social measures to ensure that no person or place is left behind.

This session takes stock of the progress so far and discusses implementation synergies and barriers, as well as the prospects for a future development of the deal, aiming for a Green Deal 2.0.

The "triple crisis," the intertwining of climate change, environmental pollution, and biodiversity loss, causes unprecedented and rapidly unfolding impacts on human health and well-being, animal health, and air, water, soil, food and eco-systems.

This plenary session will highlight the important role of chemical pollution in the triple crisis our planet is faced with, and addresses how this topic could receive the required political attention.
