WHA adopts global action plan on antimicrobial resistance
On Monday 25 May, The World Health Assembly (WHA) adopted the Global Action Plan in Antimicrobial Resistance, a key document in coordinating the global management of antibiotic resistance.
Thomas Tängdén, chairman of the programme committee for Uppsala Health Summit, welcomes the announcement but notes that major efforts and collaboration will be needed at global, regional and national levels to convert the plan into concrete measures. “Overcoming barriers for its implementation is the next urgent step ahead”, he says.
Uppsala Health Summit, which has attracted influential international experts, policy makers, industry delegates and representatives of government agencies and health organizations, is thus an important forum for securing a strong commitment from all parties and meeting the real challenges that remain to be solved.
